Bishnupur rallies against Jiri massacre, AFSPA

Bishnupur, November 22 2024:
Denouncing the abduction and murder of women and children by armed Kuki militants, and re-imposition of AFSPA in areas under six police stations, a public rally was organised jointly by Apunba Meira Paibi Lup Bishnupur, United Clubs' Organisation of Bishnupur District, Manipuri Students' Federation Bishnupur District Committee, and All Manipur Women Voluntary Association, Bishnupur.
With Kha Potshangbam Public Ground as the kick-off point, the rally participants tried to march towards the Bishnupur DC office, but on reaching Nachou Parking, they were intercepted by teams of RAF and Manipur police and allowed to proceed only up to Nachou Pant hong.
After returning to Potshangbam Public Ground, a public meeting was held during which MPAL president N Thambaleima highlighted that the rally was organised to raise the demand for withdrawal of AFSPA re-imposed recently as well as public condemnation against the cold blooded murder of six children and women in Jiribam, who were taken hostage and killed by armed Kuki militants.
During the public meeting, Committee on Human Rights chairperson Phulindro Konsam also shared insights on the draconian law.
