Imphal, August 18 2025:
Meetei Erol Eyek Loina Sillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) celebrated its 22nd foundation day on Monday at GM Hall, alongside prize distribution programme for the 3rd Meetei Mayek competition for students from Classes I to X, held on August 3 .
The function was attended by Lamlai MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha, Imphal West Zilla Parishad chairperson Laishram Boby, GP Women's College Manipuri Department head Dr Waikhom Romesh, HERICOUN president Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman and MEELAL Kangleipak president Khaidem Ingocha Meetei as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Khaidem Ingocha recounted that the competition was organised to promote and preserve Meetei Mayek (script) handed down by forefathers.
He said that the script not only safeguarded cultural heritage but also recorded the peaceful coexistence of different communities in Manipur.
"Only when these written truths are known to the present generation can the prevailing unrest in the state be addressed and peace restored," he said.
Ingocha further highlighted MEELAL's efforts to spread knowledge of Meetei Mayek and the language among both hill and valley communities, aiming to bridge communication gaps and foster harmony.
He appealed for collective support in this endeavour.
As part of the programme, floral tributes were offered to late members of MEELAL in their honour.
