Four-day farmers training prog begins

Under the sponsorship of Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA), Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Thoubal along with ICAR-ATARI, Zone VII, Umiam, Meghalaya and Department of Agriculture, Manipur launched a four-day farmers' training programme on "Organic Farming of Fruit , Spices & Vegetable Crops" at the training hall of KVK Thoubal on Monday.
The inaugural function of the training to be conducted under Phase-IV of Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCD-NER) Scheme, was attended by KVK Thoubal head senior scientist Dr Zeshmarani Sarangthem, MOMA project officer Ak Somorjit, Thoubal district horticulture officer Khaidem Malemnganba Meitei and KVK Thoubal SMS horticulture Dr Kh Premlata Devi as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Zeshmarani stressed the importance of organic farming, while further highlighting the need for working together on agricultural allied activities to enhance the same.
During the training programme, various resource persons will deliberate on topics including "Marketing of Organic Products", "Organic input production"; "Production of quality planting material of organic spices crop"; "Organic cultivation of Ginger & Turmeric and AESA(Agro -ecosystem analysis based bio-intensive management of biotic stress in Ginger & Turmeric)"; "Organic cultivation of Pineapple"; "Organic cultivation of King Chilli and AESA(Agro-eco system analysis based bio-intensive management of biotic stress in King Chilli)"; and 'Organic marketing for Small Businesses' Tailoring Strategies for FPO Success, Organic input production and Value addition of spices crop.
A held visit to Heinoukhong Village, Heirok will also be conducted.
