CCpur, April 11 2025: A mentally challenged girl was allegedly raped and murdered while collecting firewood in a forest near Leijangphai under Thanlon sub-division in Churachandpur district, according to reliable sources.

The incident came to light around Friday noon when her lifeless body was discovered at the site where she had gone to collect firewood.

Reports suggest signs of sexual assault, as her clothing was found torn, with her skirt pulled down at the location where her body was found.

Sources said the girl's father had asked her to collect firewood from the nearby forest on Thursday morning.

When she failed to return home, the father, alarmed by her absence, began a search.

Her body was later found lying near a bundle of firewood.

According to the sources, at least one person has been picked up by the police in connection with the case.

Further investigation is underway.
