The 48-hour total shutdown planned along the Yairipok-Azad Junction to Nongpok Keithelmanbi road under Andro assembly constituency, Imphal East district, which began at midnight of April 8, has been called off following an understanding reached with Andro MLA Thounaojam Shyamkumar.
The shutdown, spearheaded by Yairipok to Nongpok Keithelmanbi Road Development Organisation in collaboration with clubs and organisations of nine villages, was withdrawn after the MLA assured that repair work on the dilapidated road stretch would commence by April 20 .
Addressing media persons on Wednesday, Organisation's co-convenor Premkumar Loukrakpam, informed that the demarcation process for the road would begin by April 15.The process will be jointly undertaken by the organisation, local clubs and meira paibi groups of the nine villages, with necessary machinery provided by the MLA.
Following this assurance, the total shutdown was called off with immediate effect, Premkumar said.
He, however, cautioned that if the promised repair work does not commence by the specified date, the organisation will launch intense forms of agitation starting the next day.
Meanwhile, he informed that the restriction on the movement of heavy vehicles along the affected stretch has been temporarily relaxed between 5 pm and 6 pm.
Any untoward incidents arising from the movement of heavy vehicles beyond the allotted time frame will be the sole responsibility of those who violate the restriction, he cautioned.
