Imphal, July 05 2024:
New Development Organisation, Singjamei has contended that breach of Imphal River embankment in Oinam Thingel area which resulted in flooding Singjamei area, was due to faulty Construction of the retaining wall.
Addressing media persons on July 2 night at the breached site, advisor of the organisation Oinam Romen pointed out that some four years ago, a water intake site was constructed adjacent to the breached area at Oinam Thingel under the supervision of IFC department.
The foundation of the water intake site was dug up to a depth of about 20 feet only, prompting local residents to repeatedly request the competent authorities to erect a retaining wall in the area.
Regrettably, the constructed retaining wall lacked adequate quality control measures.
As a result, people of Singjamei experienced flooding following the breach of Imphal River embankment at Oinam Thingel, he added.
