Leaders of Naga Women Union (NWU) along with representatives of United Naga Council (UNC), All Naga Students' Association Manipur (ANSAM) and Rongmei Students' Organisation visited the flood affected area in and around Imphal city particularly areas inhabited by Naga community on Saturday.
During the visit, NWU president and her team interacted with families affected by flood and encouraged them to be strong and have faith in God as natural disasters can happen to anybody anytime.
The team also provided basic relief materials to the flood victims especially those belonging to Naga community.
The relief materials provided were nowhere near adequate to the scale of devastation brought on by the cyclone Remal but it was a goodwill gesture and show of solidarity to the affected members of Naga fraternity, the NWU president said and expressed hope that the situation will improve in the coming days.
The NWU leaders urged authorities concerned to adequately provide basic necessary relief materials such as clean drinking water, food, toiletries, medicine, sanitary pads for women and children as they are needed the most.
They also expressed concern about likely outbreak of water borne diseases in the aftermath of flood and urged the concerned departments to do the needful.
