Imphal, June 02 2024:
Six student bodies namely MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK, AIMS, and another organisation have put forth conditions to Manipur University regarding its post-graduation admissions this year, urging for an 80 percent reservation for Manipuri students in these admissions.
In a statement, the six student bodies said that the MU authorities should request competent authorities to allocate 80 percent reservation for students holding Permanent Residential Certificates (PRCs) or Domicile Certificates, taking into account the cut-off marks in the CUET entrance test conducted by the NTA.
The remaining 20 percent should be placed in the unreserved category based on the merit list.
This condition should be implemented during the current year's admission process.
The statement further informed that as a central university, Manipur University started post graduate (MA, MSc, MCom) admissions based on the CUET exam conducted by NTA since 2022.However, due to impact of COVID-19 and the condition of the state, the selection process was done based on 50 percent under CUET and 50 percent under MUET and admissions done accordingly.
However, in neighbouring states like Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Mizoram, the respective state authorities have started implementing various measures to protect their own students and tailor their education systems accordingly.
These states reserve 50 to 80 percent seats for their own students in the admission process.
Contrastingly, in Manipur, authorities seem passive until pressured, leading to student dropouts, weakening the state, and eventually causing societal failure, the statement said.
Therefore, the student bodies resolved to implement specific measures for the welfare of the student community in the state.
The Manipur University authorities should put into action the demands of the student bodies during the ongoing admission process, the release added.
