Court grants bail to one; cops to grill trio

The court of CJM, Imphal West on Tuesday granted bail to one of the four persons accused of looting Rs 4 crore worth of gold from the Bank of Baroda (BoB), Manipur University campus branch, while remanding the remaining three to police custody.
Accused Akoijam Renash (20) s/o Ak Premjit of Ningombam Awang Leikai was granted bail, while Khaidem Jackychan (38) s/o Kula of Khurkhul Makha Leikai, Ganga Ningombam (41) w/o Nongmaithem Johnson Singh of Kakching Makha Leikai, and Gary Moirangthem (21) s/o Somendro of Thongju Part-2 Makha Leikai have been sent to police custody till October 5 to facilitate further interrogation.
On Tuesday, Singjamei police produced Jackychand, Renash and Ganga before the court with a prayer for police remand of five days, and Gary to be remanded to judicial custody.
According to the report submitted by IO of the case, on September 17 around 10am, the Bank's cashier opened the strongroom and found it had been broken into.
The staff grew suspicious and checked only to discover some packets containing gold missing.
The CCTV footage was immediately examined and it showed that on September 12 around 1.41 am, two individuals were inside the Branch Manager's chamber before the footage was cut off.
A report conveying the same was filed by senior branch manager Gan ga Ningombam to Singjamei PS on the same day around 4.40 pm.
Based on the report, Singjamei PS registered a case and launched an investigation consequently rounding up the four on September 20 and 22 on the ground of suspicion.
As police unearthed suspicious evidences from the accused persons, the IO made the prayers for further interrogation, which the court upheld and remanded Gary, Jackychand and Ganga to police custody, while granting bail to Renash.
