'Drink From Tap Mission' launched in Tamenglong

Tamenglong, August 01 2025:
The district administration in collaboration with the District Water & Sanitation Mission (DWSM) officially launched the first-ever 'Drink From Tap Mission' at Akhui village on Friday.
Known as one of the cleanest villages in Tamenglong district, Akhui, located 15 km from the district headquarters became the first village in Manipur to implement the innovative pilot project, which aims to provide safe drinking water directly to every household.
Akhui village is home to 78 households and has ensured that each household has own water tap, facilitating direct access to potable water.
The Har Ghar Jal mission was inaugurated by Tamenglong DC Dr Angshim Dangshawa in the presence of officials of the district including Tamenglong ADC CEO Kachamthai F Gangmei, SDO D Meidinbui, ZEO N Abonpou Christopher, PHED EE Salew Lohrii Mao, AE Premson T Panmei and Chaengdai VA chairman Dimthaorei Panmei.
The event was participated by school students and local villagers.
During the launch, Dr Angshim distributed Water Field Testing Kits to the villagers, empowering them to test water quality while PHED laboratory chemists provided hands-on training on how to use the kits.
Initial results confirmed that the water quality was within permissible limits and safe for consumption.
After the launch programme the DC accompanied by officials inspected various water taps around the village to ensure proper functionality and water quality.
