Leaders like Indira, Patel need of the hour: Gaikhangam

Imphal, October 31 2024: "We need leaders like Indira Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to defend against those threatening the unity and territorial integrity of the state and country," stated All India Congress Committee (AICC) Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Gaikhangam.

He made the statement during observance of the 149th birth anniversary of India's first deputy prime minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and 40th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, organised by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at Congress Bhawan, here, Thursday.

Former deputy chief minister Gaikhangam also recounted the contributions and sacrifices of the two leaders for the nation, and urged the present-day generation to follow in the footsteps of the two leaders.

He then called on the present-day generation to take it upon themselves to realise the leaders' dreams and visions for the country and stressed the need for brave leaders like Indira Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to lead and defend the integrity and unity of the state and country.

As part of the observance, Gaikhangam led the party workers in offering floral tributes to the portraits of the departed leaders.

The observance was also attended by Khundrakpam MLA Th Lokeshwar, former minister N Loken, Phungyar ex-MLA Victor Keishing and other party leaders.
