Students need not rely on rote learning: S Jitenlal

Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) secretary S Jitenlal has stated that students will no longer rely on rote memorisation and instead face examinations based on their understanding and knowledge of the subject.
He said this while speaking at the valedictory function of a four-day workshop on "Competency based question bank development" organised by BSEM under the aegis of PARAKH-NCERT, New Delhi, at the conference hall of the Board on Friday.
Jitenlal explained that students would no longer depend on there rote learning but be able to sit for examinations confidently, having a thorough understanding of the subjects.
"This skill will stay for a lifetime instead of being something they have memorised temporarily," he conveyed.
The secretary also informed that the workshop's objective is to increase the competency level in setting questions, thereby helping to grow the skills of the students.
The closing function was also attended by BSEM chairman Akham Joykumar and controller of examinations Ayam Thoi as members on the dais.
