Violence against women denounced

Imphal, November 25 2024:
Women Action for Development (WAD) launched fortnight observance on Elimination of Violence Against Women at the Mapal Kangjeibung gate on Monday, under the banner "Save Women and Children" .
The observance will continue till December 10 under the year's theme "Unite to End Violence Against Women and Girls, Save Women, Save Children, Save Generations".
During the event, participants displayed placards bearing messages such as "Enough is Enough", "Unite to End Gender-Based Violence", "No Excuse for Abuse", and "Take a Stand" .
In her speech, WAD secretary Sobita Mangsatabam highlighted that November 25 was designated by the United Nations General Assembly as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women to raise awareness and protest against crimes targeting women and children globally.
Although international agreements prohibit targeting of women and children during wartime, these vulnerable groups continue to suffer in Manipur amid the ongoing crisis, she noted, demanding that those involved in crime against women and children must face legal action.
