National Girl Child Day celebrated

Imphal, January 24 2022: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Imphal West under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) organised a painting competition in connection with the observance of National Girl Child Day, at Nirvana Foundation, Nalini Asthma Children Home for Girls in Ghari Awang Leikai on Monday.

The competition which was held for students of Class I-XI was attended by District and Sessions Judge Imphal West cum DLSA Imphal West and Tamenglong chairman A Guneshwar Sharma and DLSA Imphal West secretary Hiralati Moirangthem.

Conducted in three categories, in all, 70 student inmates of the Home took part in the competition which was held on the topic of 'National Girl Child Day and Role of Women in Society' .

In the senior category, students of Malom Mega High School, namely Amom Deeparani (Class VIII), Huidrom Sheila Chanu (Class VIII) and Lukingailu Panmei (Class IX) bagged the first, second and third positions respectively.

In the junior category, Kshetrimayum Abesana (Class V) of Modern Tera Primary School, Laishram Ayingbi Chanu (Class VI) of Malom Mega High School and Maisnam Valentina Devi (Class V) of Modern Tera Primary School won the first, second, and third places respectively.

On the other hand, DLSA Chandel observed National Girl Child Day at Khangshim village under Machi Block of Tengnoupal district.

Child Welfare Committee Tengnoupal member secretary Dangam Khaling delivered the inaugural speech, while All Tribal Women Organisation secretary T Moikham spoke as resource person.

The speakers highlighted the discrimination faced by girls in the society and urged all to take a proactive role in empowering the girls so as to help bring about equality.

DLSA Chandel also organised a micro legal awareness programme on the theme of 'Empowerment of Tribal Women through Livelihood support and skill development' at Chandel District headquarters on Monday.

During the programme, assistance were provided to women beneficiaries from different villages for enrolment of weaver cards.
