Imphal, May 22 2025:
Marking a significant advancement in surgical care in Manipur, BABINA Hospital has announced the installation of a high-frequency multi-purpose laser system, the first of its kind in the state.
In a statement, BABINA Hospital informed that the newly installed laser system significantly reduces bleeding, minimises tissue damage, and ensures precise'targeting compared to conventional surgical tools.
The advanced system is designed for better absorption in water-rich tissues, resulting in fewer complications and no adverse impact on blood components.
It is applicable across multiple surgical specialties, including the treatment of varicose veins, piles, and ano-rectal fistulas, as well as procedures such as vaginoplasty, cyst removal, adhesiolysis and spinal disc decompression.
Dr Sidartha Lukram, who is an endo-vascular surgeon at BABINA Hospital, noted that the laser system represents a major technological upgrade in surgical care.
"To the best of my knowledge, this is the first of its kind installed in Manipur, supporting a wide range of procedures with greater safety and fewer side effects, which translates into better patient experiences," he said.
The statement further informed that the introduction of the laser is expected to enhance patient comfort, reduce hospital stays and lower the risk of post-operative complications.
Its minimally invasive approach also allows patients to resume normal activities more quickly compared to traditional surgical techniques.
Regarding the development, BABINA Hospital medical superintendent Dr Shyamkumar Laishram said introducing this laser system is part of a broader commitment to deliver advanced, safe and patient-centred care.
"We believe such innovations should not be limited to metros but should be made available Where they are needed the most".
Endo-vascular laser surgeries using the new system have already commenced at the hospital and are being offered at affordable rates to ensure greater public access to high-quality surgical care.
The initiative reflects BABINA Hospital's continued commitment to integrating reliable, evidence-based innovations and expanding the availability of modern surgical solutions in the region, the release added.
