29th 'NEDSCON 2024' begins at JNIMS

Imphal, December 16 2024: The two-day 29th annual conference of the North Eastern Diabetes Society (NEDS), "NEDSCON 2024", commenced at JNIMS auditorium on Monday.

The inauguration programme was attended by medical director Dr Gonmei Chambo and NEDSCON 2024 organising committee chairman Dr Y Iboton as chief guest and president respectively while RIMS director Dr G Sunil Kumar Sharma, reception committee chairperson Dr Kh Lokeshwor, NEDSCON 2024 organising secretary Dr Ksh Achouba and treasurer Dr Salam Ranabir were the guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Y Iboton noted that the number of people suffering from diabetes in the state is alarmingly high as one or two members of every family are affected by the disease.

"Diabetes which is a leading cause of both kidney and eye failure is closely linked to our diet and lifestyle choices," he alerted, adding that once contracted, diabetes remains a lifelong condition.

He then highlighted the NEDSCON 2024 aims to facilitate discussion on ways to prevent diabetes and promote health, even for those who are already living with the condition.
