Bishnupur, October 16 2024:
Demanding unconditional release of the four arrested members of Youth of Manipur (YOM), a sit-in demonstration was held at Kangmong Manglak community hall under the aegis of Kangmong Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, on Wednesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the sit-in participated by women folks of nine villages, Lup advisor Maisnam Shakhi urged the authorities concerned to release the YOM quartet, in police custody, without any condition by Thursday.
She cautioned of launching intense protest in case the government ignores the demand for unconditional release of the four.
Shakhi also strongly condemned arrest of the volunteers for taking part in a peaceful democratic rally to denounce detention of transgender activist Malem Thongam.
Recalling that Manipur police had arrested the four moments after their release by a court, she also criticised government for failing to effectively address the current crisis in the state and targeting innocent civilians to cover up administrative inefficiency.
Shakhi further stated that the 10 Kuki MLAs who are scheming to divide Manipur, along with the armed Kuki narco-terrorists illegally entering the state from across the border, should be uprooted from Manipur.
