Imphal, August 07 2024:
Volunteers of Lamlai Kendra Village Volunteer Force (LKVVF) briefly blocked the Imphal-Ukhrul Road on Wednesday, protesting alleged indifferent attitude of the government authorities to their demand for removal of Jat Regiment from Lamlai due for failure to prevent Kuki militants from attacking Meetei villages in the red zone.
However, the highway siege was called off around 2:30 pm following an understanding in a meeting at Yaingangpokpi police station in the presence of Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha, Imphal East SP K Meghachandra, Jat Regiment CO, representatives of LKVVF, and meira paibi leaders of PALEM Imphal East.
Speaking to reporters, LKVVF representative Meghachandra Moirangthem reasoned that the agitation was launched due to the state government's indifferent and unresponsive attitude despite the deadline served by LKVVF to remove the Jat Regiment from Lamlai.
The protest was called off following assurance by the government representatives that two posts of security personnel, including of the state force, will be set up at Yaingangpokpi Uyokching and Thamnapokpi Uyokching.
If the said assurance is not translated into action within short notice, LKVVF, along with various CSOs and meira paibi groups will launch more intense forms of agitation, he cautioned.
