Bishnupur, May 07 2025:
Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Churachandpur, currently taking shelter at the Old Mini Secretariat complex Loukoipat relief camp, staged a sit-in protest on Wednesday against the transfer of Bishnupur DC Lourembam Bikram.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, one Keisham Roma, who fled from Khuga Tampak village in Churachandpur due to the crisis, described DC Bikram as an officer who truly understands the challenges faced by the IDPs.
"He has been providing consistent and essential support to the IDPs residing in relief camps," Roma reasoned, adding that the protest was organised to show their discontent over the transfer of such a compassionate and responsible officer.
Another IDP Maibam Tumuthe, also from Khuga Tampak, expressed that the transfer is unreasonable and should be revoked.
Demanding that the DC be retained until the ongoing crisis is resolved, he warned that the IDPs would be compelled to launch intense forms of agitation in case their demand is not met.
Meanwhile, IDPs sheltering at Phubala, Terakhongshangbi and at Kwakta Sericulture Farm also staged a similar sit-in protest against the DC's transfer.
