Imphal, October 04 2024:
Coordinating Body of Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee convener Waikhom Ananda Meetei has questioned how long will the state government continue to suppress Meetei/Meitei community by delaying recommendation to the centre regarding inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club Thangjing Hall on Friday, W Ananda said the Coordinating Body was formed to follow the footsteps of Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee, Manipur (STDCM), which has been dedicatedly working for the welfare of Meetei/Meitei community.
Pledging all possible support to the STDCM in its pursuit for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in ST list, Ananda also appealed to organisations, meira paibi groups and CSOs to attend the public convention on inclusion of Meetei/ Meitei in ST list to be held at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen on October 6 and take a unanimous resolution on the issue.
Mentioning that the convention will be attended by STDCM members from all branches and units, he urged clubs, organisations and meira paibi groups to participate and share their views, so that resolutions can be adopt with unanimity.
Ananda further reiterated that government has no explainable reason behind the 10 year delay in sending the recommendation.
For how long will the government subdue Meetei/Meitei people, why there is such a delay when there is no guarantee that Meetei/Meitei will be included in the ST list after central government-receives the recommendation, How much long will the government continue to ignore public's long awaited demand, he posed.
