Imphal, October 31 2024:
Aimed at addressing unemployment and empowering displaced individuals, chief secretary Dr Vineet Joshi, along with home commissioner Ashok Kumar, and officials of tourism department, formally sent off 15 selected candidates for employment at Barbeque Nation.
The selected candidates, who are internally displaced persons (IDPs) from relief camps across the state, were accompanied by top state officials at the airport, highlighting the government's commitment to providing sustainable livelihood opportunities for those impacted by displacement, according to a statement issued by staff officer to the chief secretary, Mercina R Panmei.
The 15 candidates include five from Kangpokpi, four from Churachandpur, and six from Bishnupur.
They are set to begin their employment journey with Barbeque Nation in Kolkata, a placement secured through the successful completion of hospitality training under the 'Hunar Se Rozgar Scheme' sanctioned by the ministry of tourism.
It marked the first batch of trained individuals to embark on a new path toward economic stability, with the scheme having already placed 168 candidates in jobs nationwide.
Dr Vineet Joshi encouraged unemployed youth, particularly those living in relief camps, to participate in similar training programmes that guarantee job placements upon successful completion.
Noting high unemployment rate in the state and limitations of the government sector in providing employment for all, he emphasised the need to diversify into other industries to create new job opportunities.
The state government has set up training centres across all districts, offering open applications to both IDPs and non-IDPs, with the goal of placing 2,000 candidates in various corporate companies over the coming months.
In line with this vision, the chief secretary urged youth from all districts to make the most of the two-month courses that provide skill development and guarantee employment.
The programmes are designed to help bridge the gap between job seekers and available positions, empowering participants with essential skills in hospitality, food and beverage services, and customer carb, among other areas.
The government also announced plans to explore employment opportunities beyond the food and beverage industry.
The hospitality sector offers a range of roles across the country, and with the success of the initial placements, the state government aims to expand job prospects for youth into other sectors, including travel and tourism, event management, wellness services, and accommodation.
This initiative is part of a broader goal to provide varied career paths and increase employment options for state youths.
The state government's focus on guaranteed job placements and its proactive approach to skill development signify a milestone in addressing unemployment and building a sustainable livelihood framework for the youth, particularly those from vulnerable communities.
This initiative underscores the government's dedication to transforming Manipur's employment landscape through training and development, promising new avenues of growth for thousands of young people across the state, the statement added.
