DC stresses safe drinking water, proper sanitation

Deputy commissioner Pooja Elangbam on Thursday chaired a meeting of the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM), Bishnupur district, at the conference hall of the Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur, to deliberate on key issues concerning water supply and sanitation in the district.
During the meeting, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Bishnupur executive engineer Puyam Rambo briefed the deputy commissioner on the implementation status of Jal Jeevan Mission - Har Ghar Jal, an initiative by the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
The mission aims to provide safe and adequate drinking water to every rural household through individual tap connections.
Pooja Elangbam directed the PHED officials to ensure the provision of safe drinking water and proper sanitation across the district, emphasising that water and sanitation are vital components in ensuring good health and well-being.
Highlighting the importance of expanding the reach of the Jal Jeevan Mission in the district, the deputy commissioner stressed the need to identify vulnerable areas So that they could be included under the scheme.
She urged officials to meet the target of providing safe drinking water to every household in the district by December 2026.Executive engineer Puyam Rambo outlined the progress made in implementing the mission and the challenges faced on the ground.
He assured that the department would strive to meet the target.
The meeting was attended by Bishnupur ADM Toijam Open-dro as well as members of the DWSM, Bishnupur.
It may be noted that the DWSM has been constituted as per the operational guidelines for the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission - Har Ghar Jal, under the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
