FBOs briefed on licence, registration norms

On sprit licensing/registration camp-cum-awareness for food business operators was organised by Food Safety Administration (FSA), Senapati, at Khabung Karong community hall, here, on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering, FSA designated officer (DO) L Johnny stated that any food business in India requires a valid license or registration from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
He said that the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006 mandates that all food busi ness operators, regardless of size and type, operating without license are liable to face penalty of Rs 10 lakh.
Iterating that license is mandatory for any entity involved in preparing, processing, packaging, storing, distributing, or selling food products, Johnny advised fair price shops, grocery shops, fish and meat vendor, tea hotel, restaurant, street vendors, mid-day meal, Anganwadi centres, etc., to apply for registration through the website www.foscos fssai.gov.in with payment of Rs 100 for one year, and renewed every year in time to avoid late fine of Rs 100 per day.
While clarifying that no fee would be charged for AWC workers, the officer cautioned that the Food Safety Department will check all the food business establishments and if any food business operator is found un-registered or without license then they are liable to be punished as per the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.Informing the participants about food fortification (vitamins and minerals) in rice, oil, salt, milk, he dismissed rumours about plastic rice contained in the rice sag, stating that presence of sizeable rice is in fact fortified food.
Around 60 food business operators from Kathikho Karong, Khabung Karong, Vakho and Mao Karong attended the programme.
