Thoubal, July 26 2025:
Students of Khangabok Higher Secondary School staged a protest demonstration on campus on Saturday, demanding immediate intervention by the state government to resolve the ongoing impasse with agitating teachers, who have been on a pen-down strike since July 21 .
As part of the protest, the students formed human chains and held placards bearing messages such as "Enable us to study peacefully", "Bring a solution between the agitating teachers and government", and "Do not disturb the academic atmosphere of the school".
Elangbam Yohenba, a Class XII Science student who participated in the demonstration, said that eight teachers from the school handling subjects including English, Manipuri, Home Science, Biology, and Political Science have joined the pen-down strike initiated by the Lecturers' Association Manipur (LAM) 2018 batch.
The protest is in demand for regularisation of their services and in opposition to the contractual pay structure proposed by the government.
He expressed concern that regular classes have not been held for nearly a week due to the strike, severely affecting the students' academic progress.
He urged the state government to intervene at the earliest and ensure that students' right to education is not compromised.
