AR honours braveheart, holds anti-drug lecture

Assam Rifles on Sunday organised a wreath-laying ceremony at Moreh in Tengnoupal district to honour its braveheart who laid down their lives in service of the nation.
On May 26, 1955, the 5th Battalion of Assam Rifles was deployed to tackle Naga hostiles from Tawang district, Arunachal Pradesh.
During the operation, Havildar Rithe Tamang of 5 Assam Rifles made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty while fighting Naga hostiles.
Havildar Rithe's sacrifice is etched in the history of Assam Rifles in golden letters and serves as motivation for the Assam Rifles soldiers.
The solemn ceremony included wreath-laying and a minute of silence to remember his brave deed, according to PRO IGAR(S).
In another release, the PRO informed that under the Meri Life Amplification Plan 2024,' Assam Rifles initiated an action plan from May 5 to June 5, 2024 to enlighten the youth and community members of Moreh town about the dangers of drug addiction and the importance of maintaining a drug-free lifestyle.
According to the release, Assam Rifles on May 25 organised an awareness lecture and yoga demonstration on drug abuse under the theme "Healthy Lifestyle Adoption" at the Addulam Drug Rehabilitation Centre in H Munnom village.
This comprehensive programme aimed to combat substance abuse within the community through an enlightening lecture that highlighted the dangers of drug addiction.
60 participants, including youths and village representatives, participated in the event, which concluded with a solemn pledge-taking ceremony for a drug-free society.
The awareness sessions, combined with yoga demonstrations, aimed to strengthen the bond between the community and security forces.
All villagers and children of the community were provided refreshments at the end of the event, it added.
