Chandel, June 25 2024:
Raising'concerns over the planned search operations from June 24 to 29 in several villages under Chandel and Chakpikarong police stations in Chandel district, Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) has said that the plan has alarmed and disturbed the peaceful Naga community in the district.
In a statement, CNPO said that the local populace are perplexed by the rationale behind conducting such operations in Chandel district, a region known for its peace and neutrality despite the ethnic violence happening in other parts of the state.
CNPO stated, "The peaceful living Naga people have been deeply affected by this combing operation, which has induced fear psychosis, mental harassment, and widespread criticism.
Chandel district is a peace zone and has remained neutral.
The necessity of such operations is understood in violence-affected zones, but not in our peaceful district".
CNPO appealed to authorities concerned to immediately revoke the operation plan in the district while emphasising the need to maintain peace, harmony, and tranquillity in the area.
