Thoubal, June 23 2025:
Meetei Community Joint Coordinating Committee (MCJCC), a coalition of 18 clubs of Waithou, Kiyam, Kiyam Siphai, Haokha and Thoubal Khunou, has strongly condemned the assault of driver of a bus which was returning from an excursion trip.
The bus was occupied by students and parents of YAI Boarding cum Coaching Centre, Thoubal Haokha Kiyam Siphai, when the incident happened on Sunday.
Speaking to media persons at Babu Bazar, here, on Monday, MCJCC Women's Wing secretary Pebam Indrani informed that the incident occurred during the coaching centre's annual excursion.
According to her, a minor altercation took place on the return journey from Sendra involving three individuals riding two two-wheelers, reportedly over a right-of-way issue.
Although the dispute was initially resolved, the same individuals accompanied by others intercepted the bus at a secluded location nearby Bishnupur town, and assaulted the driver in front of students and parents, and the vehicle smashed.
"This incident is deeply unfortunate and we condemn it in the strongest terms," Indrani said, calling for justice and immediate clarification from those involved in the act.
She further alleged that the group involved in the assault was led by an individual identified as Birjit, who claimed to be representative of an organisation.
Indrani questioned the legitimacy of this claim and called on the authorities to clarify which organisation Birjit represents.
She also expressed concern and confusion over the fact that the vehicles used by the group bore the symbol of Arambol Tenggol, adding that this has raised serious questions among the public.
Indrani demanded that identity of the organisation associated with Birjit be made known to the public to ensure transparency and accountability.
