Noney launches anti-tobacco campaign

In line with the National Tobacco Control Programme's (NTCP) mission to reduce tobacco consumption and promote healthy lifestyles, NTCP, Noney has launched 'Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 2.0', Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions' (ToFEI) and 'Tobacco- Free Village Initiative' .
In a notification issued on November 20, District Health Society (DHS), Noney, district nodal officer (NTCP) Dr Shangamlung Kamei cautioned that tobacco use claims over 10 lakh lives annually in India and tobacco consumption leads to cancer, heart diseases, stroke, diminished health, cataract, chronic respiratory diseases anti premature births.
Towards checking tobacco use and promoting healthy lifestyles, NTCP, Noney announced Tobacco-Free Champion Award carrying Rs 10,000 and certificate for the first person to quit tobacco, Tobacco-Free Village Award which includes Rs 10,000 and certificate for the first tobacco-free village and Tobacco-Free Educational Institution (ToFEI) Award consisting of Rs 10,000 cash and certificate for the first school to achieve ToFEI status, it informed, adding that the awards will be presented at a public ceremony.
The notification also invited the public to visit the District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) Office, NTCP, DHS, Noney for further details about the campaign.
