Early detection of cancer accentuated

In a step toward community health empowerment, a cancer awareness workshop was held at Brighter Public School, Andro Mamang Leikai, Imphal East on Saturday.
The event aimed to educate locals about early detection, prevention, and screening programmes to combat the burden of cancer in the community.
Organised by Chhabi Sahayog Foundation, Manipur Prant, in collaboration with Dev Desh Pratisthan, Mumbai, and Saidham Cancer Hospital, Shirdi, the workshop featured educational sessions led by Dr Thokchom Kamala Wahengbam, a cancer warrior and head of the Women's Wing, Chhabi Sahayog Foundation.
Supported by N Bihari Singh, Ch Memcha, and A Tombi, the sessions highlighted common cancer types, symptoms, prevention strategies, and the importance of early detection.
The event, attended by over 75 participants including 50 women, encouraged open discussions and Q&A sessions to address myths and empower attendees to prioritise their health.
Special emphasis was placed on engaging women and the elderly, who are at higher risk for certain cancers.
Dr Kamala Wahengbam stated, "Knowledge is power, and this initiative enables the people of Andro to take charge of their health".
ASHA workers Ch Kundamlei, S Santi Devi, and Maringthel councillor Ch Tombi attended the workshop as chief guest, president, and guest of honour respectively.
