Thoubal, November 21 2024:
Maintaining that the public agitation has recently become politically influenced, Nongpok Saayang Apunba Lup (NSAL) has announced abstention from public protests for the time being.
Addressing media persons in this regard at Yairipok, on Thursday, NSAL president Ananda Laishram expressed resentment that instead of Unifying the Meetei community to face the crisis collectively, public movement is being politicised as is evident from priority accorded to protecting individual MLAs and political party leaders contrary to the urgent need for fighting for the community and the state of Manipur.
Many, unseen or involved in mass movement are now joining political workers and spending nights at the residences of local MLAs in an effort to safeguard them.
Even senior government officials are seen aligning with their political patrons, he claimed, to justify NSAL's decision to stay away from public agitation related to the current crisis for the time being.
Any member of NSAL defies the decision shall have to bear the consequences that may arise, cautioned the president.
Ananda also stated that NSAL will not align with any of major CSOs in the state.
Instead, the organisation will pursue its own course of action to seek resolution and bring about a positive outcome in the current crisis.
However, NSAL will offer support to the government or any organisation working to resolve the crisis, expel the migrant Kukis from Manipur, and address activities aimed at benefiting the people.
Additionally, he also announced that the restrictions previously imposed on government offices within NSAL's jurisdiction have been lifted with immediate effect.
