Crowd funds house construction of orphan siblings

Thoubal deputy commissioner Ahanthem Subash on Thursday handed over a house, construction of which he partially funded, to three orphan siblings of Khangabok Part-2 Mayai Leikai Lai-Lam Thokpam.
Pitiable condition of the siblings namely Thokchom Laxmi Chanu (27), Laxmipyari Chanu (24) and Laxmi-kanta Singh (20) was highlighted on the social media page of Kangleipak News Tengbang Lup (KNTL), which grabbed the attention of DC Subash.
He then visited the siblings, after which through crowd-funding, construction of the house was undertaken.
Speaking during inauguration of the house, Subash recounted the social media post uploaded on January, 5 about the siblings staying in a kutcha house.
Despite having own homestead land, the siblings were found missing from among the beneficiaries of government housing scheme, conceded the deputy commissioner, and conveyed gratitude to all those who donated for the house construction.
While stating that all the financially weak families could not be instantaneously accommodated under the government housing scheme, A Subash assured that if the public extend support to the district administration such problems can be addressed effectively.
It is said that main source of livelihood of the three is earning by the eldest sibling Laxmi from imparting private tuitions and odd jobs by her brother.
After their mother passed away, the family patriarch father fell victim to the Covid pandemic in 2021 .
