Poknapham staffer Premchand wins state journalist award

Thongam Premchand, a senior reporter of Poknapham and its sister publication, The People's Chronicle, has been selected for the Manipur State Journalist Award 2024 in the category of parliamentary reporting.
The award will be presented during the National Press Day observance on November 16 at the DIPR auditorium.
Hailing from Singjamei Makha Khongnang Pheidekpi, Premchand is the son of Thongam Tompok and holds a degree in Chemistry (Honours).
His journalism career spans over 18 years, marked by significant contributions in various fields such as agriculture, health, science and technology, and women and child reporting.
Additionally, he is an accomplished photographer whose work has been widely recognised.
He is two-time recipient of the Gender Journalist Award by Women Action for Development (1998 and 1999); Best Photographer Award from the Threatened Indigenous People's Society (1998); and Best Male Journalist by Kangleipakki Meira, an evening daily, three times, among other honours.
Other winners of the Manipur State Journalist Award 2024 in various categories include Sanaleibak chief editor Ningombam Hemantakumar (Best Editor Award for national integration and communal harmony), and Sanaleibak reporters M Khagemba, L Kamaljeet, Kh Rabikumar, and Robinson Wahengbam for rural reporting, public health and hygiene reporting, sports reporting, and arts and culture reporting, respectively.
Sapam Aruna of The Sangai Express has been adjudged winner in science and technology category.
