State Handloom Expo begins at Nilakuthi

Imphal, August 13 2024: The 14-day Hathkargha Mela (State Handloom Expo) organised by the Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited under the sponsorship of the office of the development commissioner for handloom of the ministry of textiles kicked off Tuesday at Urban Haat, Nilakuthi.

Opening ceremony of the Mela was attended by Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited chairman Kh Ibomcha as chief guest, corporation's managing director E Jeeten as president and technical superintendent Surendro of Weavers Service Centre as guest of honour.

In his address, Kh Ibomcha said state government under the initiative of chief minister N Biren Singh has been according top priority to handloom and handicraft sector as could be comprehended from ordering utilisation of local handloom and handicraft items in all government offices.

The chief minister also introduced yarn scheme recently to aid the weavers purchase yarn at 30 percent rebate from market rates, he said.
