Imphal, February 13 2025: The State Level "Festival of Folk Songs of Manipur" organised by Centre for Manipuri Culture (CMC) under the aegis of CFPGS, Ministry of Culture was held at Sangeet Kala Sangam in Khurai Lamlong on Thursday.

The inaugural function of the festival was attended by social worker Leishangthem Itocha Meitei, BJP Khurai Mandal president L Kananbala and Art and Culture Department state coordinator Sh Naba Sharma as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Itocha expressed pride over Manipur widely recognised around the world for its rich art and culture.

He commended the CMC for organising the festival to promote folk songs and expressed hope that it would continue to take steps to support and promote other forms of art.

Delivering the keynote address, CMC general secretary L Ramchandra stated that the festival was organised to preserve and promote folk songs of the State, which have existed for centuries.

He pointed out that the festival also seeks to promote emerging artistes and provide a platform for this art form.

Ramchandra also highlighted that the festival aims to help bring an end to the ongoing conflict in the state by providing a platform to present the rich art forms.

The festival featured Kabui folk songs presented by Ragailong Cultural Song & Dramatic Union, Meitei Pangal folk songs by Rahim Cultural Foundation and Manipuri folk songs by Th Loijingkhombi and her group.
