Action plan to promote eco-tourism discussed

Senapati, April 11 2025:
Senapati district has immense potential to develop and emerge as a leading destination of eco-tourism with its serene beauty, abundant flora, fauna and cultural heritage.
To promote ecotourism in the district, Senapati Forest Division has been working in collaboration with local stakeholders and various line departments to develop Senapati into a premier eco-tourism destination.
The popular tourist destination at Dziiduri, Tunngam village was recently selected as a pilot destination and a meeting of stakeholders held on April 10 in the office chamber of DFO Senapati discussed future action plan to promote and develop eco-tourism at Dziiduri.
During the meeting, the first line of action was discussed in length and unanimously agreed to generate mass awareness to sensitize public on issues of conservation and eco-tourism potential.
During the meeting, Hills Ecotourism Adventure Team Manipur member Aneow Ngaopuo highlighted that there are many activities which the team plans to carry out but failed due to lack of funds.
However, the initiative taken up by forest department in promoting ecotourism has boosted the team's morale and encouraged members to stride forward in their goal to conserve nature.
He expressed hope that forest department's initiative will encourage and inspire youth across Senapati to promote ecotourism and nature conservation.
Meanwhile, leaders and representatives of Naojai VDVK (Van Dhan Vikas Kendra) and Willong VDVK formed under PM JANMAN (Pradhan Mantri-Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan) scheme along with representative from Maram Union held a meeting with officials at DFO Senapati office.
During the meeting, DFO Shanngam S highlighted importance of the scheme to uplift social and economic status of PVTG population in Senapati district.
He explained to the stakeholders about income generating avenues such as value addition of minor forest produce (MFP), handloom, usage of biomass to produce charcoal briquettes, etc .
Karong Range RFO Lolee Leshiini Kriibve Mao also informed the stakeholders about the way forward and shared information on advocacy, selection of trade and line of vocation, training, etc .
