Farmers briefed on pig rearing under NLM

In an effort to promote sustainable farming practices and enhance the knowledge base of farmers of Jiribam, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, organised a comprehensive sensitisation session on various departmental schemes and a specialised training programme on the scientific rearing of pigs under National Livestock Mission (NLM) on Wednesday at Hilghat community hall, Jiribam.
A release issued by Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, informed that the session was attended by its director Rk Khogendrajit Singh, joint director (Administration) L Arunkumar Singh, joint director (Pig) L Gojen, Jiribam deputy director H Usharani and Jiribam Zilla Parishad Mutum Bhagat.
The programme aims to equip farmers with the latest knowledge, techniques, and support schemes available to them, with special focus on pig farming.
The training highlighted the importance of adopting scientific methods for rearing pigs to ensure healthy livestock, increased productivity and sustainable farming practices.
While informing that the department has taken up insurance policy for livestock with national insurance company under National Livestock Mission, the director urged the farmers to avail benefit of the policy.
The release also mentioned that application for NLM Entrepreneurship Development Programme should be submitted through the website https://nlm.udyamimitra.in/.
During the programme, the director also called upon the public to vaccinate their livestock and pets at free of cost.
Later, a technical session covering topics such as 'Livestock Insurance & EDP', 'Foot & mouth disease', 'African Swine Fever', 'Rabies', 'Biosecurity measures' and 'Scientific farming of pigs' was conducted, the release added.
