Committee demands guest house for IDPs in Imphal

The Relief Committee, Manipur has submit ted a memorandum to chief minister N Biren Singh, urging him to establish a guest house in Imphal for the internally displaced persons (IDPs), particularly patients, pregnant women, and students from remote areas like Jiribam.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday, chief coordinator Thoidingjam Bon Khurai stated that the Committee is a solidarity group formed to provide relief services to IDPs sheltered in relief camps across the state.
He appealed to authorities concerned to prevent attacks by armed miscreants on innocent people and restore peace and tranquillity in the state as soon as possible.
He emphasised that the government should ensure payment of uniform assistance to all IDPs living in relief camps in Jiribam, and that the rehabilitation and resettlement processes be conducted transparently, in addition to setting up a guest house in Imphal for IDPs, particularly those who have health condition, pregnant women, and students.
Bon Khurai further mentioned that the memorandum submitted to the chief minister also urged authorities to provide free laboratory tests to internally displaced patients in casualty and outpatient departments of hospitals, make CMHT cards applicable at Silchar Hospital, issue orders regarding admission and hostel fees in colleges and schools for IDPs, and provide reservations for IDPs in government and private institutions.
