Rongmei Naga Students' Organisation, Manipur (RNSOM) has urged authorities concerned to ensure that the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Centre in Noney, inaugurated by the chief minister on Februaiy 4, 2023, is made operational by the next academic session.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Friday, RNSOM president Ripuilan Pamei stated that the DIET Centre in Noney was inaugurated by the chief minister in the presence of the education minister, commissioners of Hill Areas Committee and Education Department.
However, the centre is yet to function properly, shattering the hopes of people in Noney and Tamenglong, who seek admission to the centre.
The president further said that authorities concerned should acknowledge expectation and aspirations of the local community by hiring necessary teaching and non-teaching staff and improving the infrastructure.
He urged that these developments be implemented gs soon as possible, enabling the DIET centre to become operational by the next academic session.
Ripuilan also mentioned that the matter would be highlighted to the chief minister, and if positive response is not generated, they would initiate more intense forms of democratic protests.
On the other-hand, he informed that RNSOM and Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation Manipur (RNYOM) conducted a surprise visit to schools in Noney district to assess the challenges faced by teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as students.
These issues will be brought to the attention of the government, he said.
