Man, pregnant wife attacked

In what could be yet another election-related incident a man has been hospitalised with wounds inflicted by sharp weapons while the same group of attackers thrashed the victim's pregnant wife for raising alarm.
The incident occurred on Friday around 2.30 am at Khangabok Part-II Loishang Mamang Leikai and the injured man has been identified as Laishram Nagin (36) son of late L Koireng.
According to reports, Nagin was attacked by some people suspected to be workers of BJP candidate of Khangabok assembly constituency for the ensuing Assembly election Kh Menjor Mangang while he was sleeping.
The attackers first smashed main door of Nagin's house and attacked him with a sword.
The at-tackers did not spare Nagin's pregnant wife Laishram Ongbi Sakhenbi who raised alarm to attract attention of local people as she too was beaten up badly.
Nagin was rushed immediately to RIMS where his condition is stated to serious.
Condemning the attack on the couple, locals staged a sit-in-protest on Friday demanding befitting punishment against the perpetrators.
