Senapati, June 03 2024:
In a decisive move to safeguard the rights and prerogatives of Poumai Naga community, Poumai Naga Union (PNU) has resolved to dissociate from United Naga Council (UNC) and other associated organisations such as All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM), Naga Women's Union, Manipur (NWUM) and Naga People's Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR).
PNU adopted a resolution in this regard during the 3rd assembly of the union held on May 31, 2024 at Sanyi Dahrii Memorial Sports Complex, Khabung Karong.
The assembly, after thorough examination of the order dated May 20, 2024 (Ref no 42-03/24-25/ORDR/MKA/GPRN) served to 11 Poumai Naga leaders, concluded that PNU will reserve the right to 'Defend and Secure' the Poumai people against any threat to their existence, well-being and freedom.
PNU unanimously resolved to reject the order, asserting zero tolerance for external interference.
Consequently, the assembly requested the withdrawal of the indictment order within 15 days from May 31 .
Failure to comply may compel PNU to initiate further actions including launching a non-cooperation movement to protect their vital interests, the assembly resolved.
It also decided that Poumai Naga leaders named in the indictment order shall not resign from their respective public and social offices as they were elected by the Poumai assembly to continue their mandated roles.
Based on the resolutions passed by PNU and the election committee, the assembly declared six individuals namely Ng Lorho (Tunggam Afii), M Joyson Mazhamo (Khondei Shim-phung), KS Paul Leo (Oinam), ML Markson (Laii), RK Holison (Khamsom), and Kh Sapunii (Phuba Khuman) to have acted contrary to the approved resolutions.
The assembly also arrived at taking appropriate actions against the six individuals including social/political boycott of up to 10 years in accordance with Poumai Naga customary law and tradition.
Furthermore, the assembly nullified the recommendation letter issued to Ng Lorho for the presidency of UNC, effectively debarring him from representing PNU or holding any position in related organizations.
At the start of the assembly, vacant posts for the Poumai Naga customary law court were filled with V Dukhu from Phuba Thapham village as court chairman and RS Ngaopunii from Purul Atongba village as court registrar.
The oath of office was administered by Sh Dany, speaker of assembly affairs, PNU.
The assembly reaffirmed previous PNU resolutions regarding the issue of Tingsong Centre, Tingsong Khunou and Thiwa village.
The assembly was chaired by PNU assembly speaker Sh Dany and attended by over 500 members including union executives, advisors, leaders of frontal organizations, village chairmen and secretaries, headmen, election committee of 2024, court members, various political and religious leaders, social activists and well-wishers.
