Imphal, October 01 2024:
The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Regional Office Imphal, on Tuesday organised a Mini Integrated Communication and Outreach programme (ICOP) on Swachhta Hi Seva.
The ICO held at the CBC office aimed at raising awareness about cleanliness and hygiene as part of the nationwide Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and encourage citizens to actively contribute to maintaining a clean environment.
Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) caretaker corporator Loukrakpam Tombi Devi, who was the chief guest of the event, emphasised the role of community for success of the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign and urged citizens to uphold cleanliness standards in public spaces.
She also highlighted challenges faced by the IMC due to funding constraints.
According to her, the IMC has been operating with only two-thirds of its required manpower for years, despite covering 27 wards of seven Assembly constituencies.
She called on the state government to address these issues to ensure more effective public services.
Speaking at the event, CBC Chandel field exhibition officer Moirangthem Rustum commended the hard work of 'Safai Mitras' and sanitation workers in maintaining hygiene standards.
He encouraged the community to recognise the dignity of labour and support these workers in their efforts to keep the environment clean.
Field publicity officer and CBC Imphal head Dr N Reena, as the functional president, affirmed CBC's commitment to supporting the Swachh Bharat Mission through its outreach programs, while urging the participants to engage in cleanliness initiatives and awareness drives.
The programme featured various activities, including talks by resource persons, interactive sessions on best practices in waste management, role of Safai Mitras, and the importance of sustainable sanitation.
Trees were also planted around the CBC office complex as part of the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" initiative.
Safai Mitras were honoured for their dedicated efforts in keeping the city clean, and a written quiz competition organised for school students to promote awareness about cleanliness.
In addition to the Imphal event, similar programmes were held at CBC's region al and field offices in Itanagar, Chandel, Senapati, Tamenglong, Aizawl, and Kohima, where cleanliness drives and tree plantation activities were conducted as part of the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign.
