H&SC Dir bats for barcoding local products

Imphal, August 01 2025: Horticulture & Soil Conservation director K Devdutta Sharma has stressed the need for barcoding the state's organic products to facilitate their entry into national and international markets.

"Efforts are essential to bar code at least five/ten organic products of the state by the Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) for selling the products at national and international markets," Devdutta said in his address during a distribution event held at the Directorate of Agriculture office, near Sanjenthong on Friday.

Under the aegis of the Horticulture & Soil Conservation Department, MOMA distributed four-wheeler and agricultural inputs to FPC beneficiaries of Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCD-NER) belonging to Imphal East, Chandel, Ukhrul, Tengnoupal and Thoubal districts.

During the distribution event, K Devdutta Sharma said emergence of more Farmer Producer Company (FPC) in the state will help in a big way towards improving economy of the farmers and subsequently to state's economy.

In view of the changing global climate, it will be the right step for farmers of the state to adopt climate resilient agricultural practice," he said.

While appealing to FPC farmers to consider the company as their own and FPCs to help farmers and stand solidly for the welfare of farmers, Devdutta said economy of farmers will improve when FPCs are strengthened.

According to the director, time has come for barcoding of potential organic products produced in the state under the aegis of MOMA so that the products could be sold at national and international markets.

"It would not be beneficial if farmers and FPCs target only local markets but must put in efforts to sell their products at a wider platform," he said, stressing the need for giving special attention on functional FPCs and remove non-functional FPCs.

The distribution event was also attended by MOMA project director S Donald, MOVCDNER nodal officer (agriculture) Kh Nimai and other officials of the department.
