Memorandums submitted to Amit Shah, PM Modi

Imphal, May 31 2023: As Union Home Minister Amit Shah vis-ited the state to look into the restive situation since May 3, several organisa-tions submitted memo-randums with charter of demands to Amit Shah through government executives.

North East Peoples' Organisation (NEPO), Manipur Students' Association Delhi, Apex Committee of the Vic-tim Villagers of Ekou, Sadu-Yengkhuman, Dolaithabi, Leitanpokpi Awang Leikai (Mairen-pat) through chief secre-tary, Yelhoumee ICanba Lup (YEMKAL) through minister health and family welfare Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh and Peace Committee Wangkhei Kendra through Imphal East DC submitted mem-orandums to Amit Shah Narrating a brief history of Manipur and the root causes of the communal conflict, the memorandums high-lighted their charter of demands.

The charter of demands included immediate pre-ventive measures to halt clashes in the foothills; constitute a high level committee headed by a serving judge of High Court to investigate caus-es of the violent ethnic clash and to recommend measures for permanent solution to safeguard the lives of innocent eth-nic communities; take up action for immedi-ate suspension of So0 agreement with the Kuki armed militants and con-trol their unlawful activi-ties to bring normalcy in the state; safeguard territorial boundary and integrity of Manipur; protect reserved and protected forests of the state; prohibit illegal plantation of narcotic and poppy plants and to take stringent actions against those involved in narco-terrorist activities; extend help to rebuild houses destroyed & burnt and to give appropriate compensation for lives lost; implement NRC in the state and constitute State Population Com-mission at the earliest and speed up the bound-ary fencing works along international border; frame effective policies to protect the land of the indigenous people of Manipur; instruct central security forces to act in an impartial and trans-parent manner to secure and save the life and properties of the people; find the missing and un-traceable persons living or death; lift blockade imposed along the Na-tional Highways; wave interest of all loanees of the affected villages; central and state govern-ments take up adequate measures to disarm miscreants fuelling the conflict; government of India preserve the social fabric of the multi-ethnic state; and no division of Manipur based on ex-clusivists ethnic agenda should be carried out Meanwhile, a joint memorandum was also submitted by Wairi Women's Welfare Asso-ciation, Taretkhul Meira Paibi, Nungoi Awang Leikai Women Devel-opment Association, Sawombung Mamang Leikai Women's Welfare Association, Huidrom Meira Paibi Lup, Huidrom Youth Development Club and Huidrom Village De-velopment Committee to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through Imphal East deputy commission-er Kh Diana demanding immediate revocation of So0, flush out Chin-Kuki narco terrorists and stop the narco-terrorist ag-gression to safeguard the Integrity of Manipur.
