World No Tobacco Day observed at Nongpok Sekmai

Thoubal, August 30 2024: District Health Society (DHS), Thoubal and National Tobacco Control Programme, Thoubal jointly observed World No Tobacco Day-2024 under the aegis of National Health Mission at Sekmai Khumbi Higher Secondary School, Nongpok Sekmai, on Friday.

Held under the theme "Protecting Children From Tobacco Industry Interference", the observance function was attended by Thoubal CMO Dr Y Nokul and Higher Secondary principal P Netu as chief guest and president respectively while Nongpok Sekmai PHC medical officer in charge Dr Yengkhom Jotin and NCD Cell, Thoubal nodal officer Dr M Bikram were present as guests of honour.

In their addresses, speakers highlighted the detrimental health effects of tobacco and its broader negative impacts and how lack of physical activities could contribute to various lifestyle diseases.

An on-the-spot quiz competition was also conducted as part of the observance also attended by District Health Society, Thoubal programme manager Ch Basanta as well as staff, teachers and students of the school.
