Sit-in decries disturbance to education

As part of the ongoing movement being spearheaded by Coordinating Committee on Disturbance Free Education Zone Demand, All Manipur Elementary School Teachers' Association (AMESTA) organised a sit-in protest at ZEO Zone-II office, Porompat demanding all concerned to refrain from creating any sort of disturbances to educational institutes and all sectors related to it.
Interacting with the media, AMESTA president Konsam Thoiba said the protest was organised to draw attention of the government for looking into hardships being faced by them amid the ongoing crisis since May 3 last year.
Education sector in the state was severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic earlier and now the current crisis.
Despite this, teachers have been ensuring continuity of education for the students.
However, exorbitant monetary demands made by several groups on educational institutes have caused a severe impact on the sector.
At the same time, teachers are facing similar situations with monetary demands made by several groups.
Though they have been contributing in whatever capacity they could, such unaffordable demand is unacceptable, he said while urging all concerned to refrain from causing such disturbances.
