'Village volunteers deserve gallantry awards'

Imphal, August 29 2024: Thawai Mirel has opined that village volunteers deserve gallantry awards in recognition of the valour, invaluable service and indomitable spirit to protect public lives and properties and uphold integrity of Manipur instead of arresting them.

In a release, Thawai Mirel pointed out that 'brave' sons of the soil volunteered to defend the land from the aggression of Kuki narco-terrorists and latter's agenda and activities challenging integrity of Manipur since May 3 .

As some of the village volunteers even made the supreme sacrifice in trying to neutralise bid by the narco-terrorists to cause harm to the innocent villagers in the fringe areas, the state and central governments should acknowledge that the village volunteers are not only protecting the integrity of Manipur but also of India.

As such, they should be conferred gallantry awards for their valiant sacrifices for the land instead of arresting them, it continued, while cautioning that arrest of village volunteers by security forces has the potential to infuriate the people of Manipur.
