Dibaras workshop culminates

A 20-day workshop on Dibaras dance, organised by Radheshyam Performing Art and Culture Academy with support of the ministry of culture, concluded on Sunday with presentation of the production play "Dibaras" at Anikhambam Mandop, Khongman Zone 1 .
The workshop was funded under the ministry's Cultural Function and Production Grant Scheme to support and promote traditional art forms.
The dosing ceremony was attended by JN Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) director P Bilash, retired pradhan guru Ph Iboton, and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee and visiting guru B Gopal Sharma as members on the dais.
Speaking on the importance of the event, academy secretary Ningthoujam Chaotombi explained that Dibaras is one of the five Raas Leela dance forms of Manipur, and that the workshop aims to preserve and promote the cultural significance of this traditional art.
Highlighting its unique nature, P Bilash said that as per the historical records Dibaras was first performed at Hidangmayum Mandop, Sagolband.
It has a specific format of commencing in the afternoon and concluding at dusk.
He further reflected on JNMDA's efforts in promoting the Raas Leela throughout various parts of India, while emphasising the need to ensure its preservation for future generations.
