Transport department reminds public on mandatory TP insurance

Imphal, May 25 2024:
The Transport Department, Government of Manipur has issued a notification reminding the public about the mandatory requirement of third-party insurance for motor vehicles, as per Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.The notification, issued on Thursday, informed that under section 146 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, it is mandatory for motor vehicles to have third-party insurance coverage.
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in penalties as stipulated under Section 196 of the Act.
The penalties for non-compliance are imprisonment for up to 3 months or a fine of Rs 20,000 or both for first offence, and imprisonment for up to 3 months or a fine of Rs 40,000 or both for subsequent offence.
The notification reiterated the importance of strict compliance with these instructions and warned that failure to adhere to the mandatory third-party insurance requirement will result in the imposition of the specified penalties with immediate effect.
