Man accused in rape case sent to judicial remand

Imphal, December 23 2022: Special Judge (POCSO) Imphal West A Guneshwar Sharma on Thursday remanded one Ahongshangbam Naobi (40) s/o Khelendro of Khongjom Kheba Ching, who is accused of raping a 4-year-old girl, to 8 days under judicial custody till December 29 .

The court further fixed January 6 next year for hearing the bail application filed by the accused.

On Thursday, the case IO produced accused Naobi in the court with a prayer for 15-day judicial remand.

After perusing the report of the IO and the submissions of both the Special PP and the defence counsel, the court remanded the accused to judicial custody till December 29 .

According to the report submitted by the IO, the victim's father, who works at a brick held and lives in a house constructed near the worksite with his family, made a report to Women PS Imphal West on December 16 stating that around 5.30 pm of the same day, Ahongsangbam Naobi, who also works at the brickfield, sexually assaulted his (complainant) 4-year-old daughter at the former's designated hut.

Later, the victim's mother was helping her (victim) wash her hands and feet when the 4-year-old girl complained of pain in her private parts.

Upon enquiring, she narrated the ordeal to her mother.

Based on the report, the PS took up a case and investigated, following which Naobi was arrested the same day at around 7.20 pm.

During the inter rogation, Naobi confessed to committing the crime, the IO's report conveyed.
