Kamal conferred Heisnam Award 2025

Imphal, April 23 2025:
Writer Kamal Toijamba was conferred the 'Heisnam Basantakumar Award 2025' by Sahitya Thoupang Lup during the World Book Day celebration held at Manipur Press Club on Wednesday.
The award sponsored by the family of Heishnam Basantakumar carries cash prize of Rs 10,000, citation and shawl.
As part of the event, the 18th edition of the international Manipuri magazine "Shaklon", published by Sahitya Thoupang Lup, was also released.
Additionally, a Young Poets' Meet was organised to mark the occasion.
According to the award recipient Kamal Toijamba, he originally hails from Churachandpur but is a victim of the ethnic crisis that broke out on May 3, 2023 .
The awardee also recalled publication of his article 'Sagun' in the April 9, 2023 edition of the Poknapham daily, which he said, coincidentally had close relevance with the on-going conflict.
He also expressed gratitude to Sahitya Thoupang Lup for honouring him with the award.
The function was attended by joint chief electoral officer Ramananda Nongmeikapam and Manipur Legislative Assembly joint director Bimol Lambamayum as chief guest and president respectively.
The Young Poets' Meet session chaired by Thoudam Netrajit had several writers presenting and reciting their poems.
